While you shouldn’t watch television all that much, as it will rot your brain, there are some shows that have some pretty great hippie characters that you should check out. Whether you want to watch older shows or you want something that you can follow right now, there are plenty of options.
Matt Bradley – The Goldbergs
One of my favorite shows that is currently on TV (and probably not going to end anytime soon) is The Goldberg’s. It has a few really memorable characters, including a Dead Head! Matt Bradley (played by the adorable Shayne Topp) is a member of the JTP. While he isn’t in every episode, he is the best part of the show when he is.
Hayley – American Dad
While American Dad may not be everyone’s cup of tea, the character of Hayley is a good one. Voiced by Rachael MacFarland, she’s 18-years-old, and tends to clash with her father. It makes for a good representation of the conversations many families have in today’s world.
Phoebe Buffay – Friends
While there are many problems with the show Friends, there is no denying that it was a show that changed the world. One of the more interesting characters was Phoebe, played by Lisa Kudrow. She tends to be the most spiritual member of the cast and one of the funniest.
That doesn’t mean Phoebe is without depth. In fact, she is probably the most fleshed out female character on the show.
Yoga Jones – Orange Is The New Black
Erica “Yoga” Jones is a fan favorite on Netflix’s Orange is the New Black. Played by Constance Shulman, she leads yoga classes at the prison and uses that to keep her calm in her new personality. She teaches the “girls that remind [her] every day that self-forgiveness is possible.”
Joe Hart – Glee
Glee was a really weird show and it really sidelined one of the best characters, Joe Hart. Played by Samuel Larsen, he was a love interest for main character Quinn. He preached about love and seemed to be one of the only Glee club members that didn’t have any fights.
Shaggy – Scooby Doo
Of course, one of the most iconic hippie characters of all time is Shaggy Rogers from Scooby Doo. Portrayed and voiced by many different people, Shaggy tended to be a bit of a scaredy cat and was always hungry for some Scooby Snacks. Even so, he was one of the most beloved members of the show.
Misty Day – American Horror Story
With her fascination of Stevie Nicks, her amazing wardrobe, and her outlook toward life (even if she was a witch), Misty Day is one of the most iconic characters from American Horror Story history, and that is saying something.
Alicia Johnson & Paul Johnson – Black-ish
Rainbow’s parents, they were quite the hippie pair. They traveled the country in an RV that ran on human waste and were always there with some good insight and quips – including this one from Alicia: “All I can do is be the best version of me and forget the rest.” While we don’t see them much, how can we know they are hippies? Well, other than the “poop bus,” they named their daughter Rainbow.
Which one are you going to watch first?
