5 Reasons You Must Start Doing Yoga Daily

There are lots of good reasons for you to start doing yoga on the daily. It changes you, and honestly I can’t shut up about it sometimes. For good reason though. There are few things you could be doing for your mind and body that are more beneficial than doing this habit once a day.

It’s Great For The Mind

Yoga is not only better for the body, it’s also proven to be great for relaxation and stress relief, so it’s also good for your mind. Yoga combines stretches with a style of breathing known as pranayama, which is designed specifically to allow you to relax and clear your mind. This is one of the reasons that this combination of meditation and physical exercise is believed to improve cognitive function.

Limbers You Up

We were a lot more flexible when we were kids; we could fit into any tiny space we wanted, and when we fell down we could spring right back up without the fear of breaking a bone. Now, things are a bit different. When you start getting older you notice that your back hurts a bit more often than it used to. Bending over to pick up something you dropped is becoming a chore, and a good fall is likely to put you on the couch for the rest of the day. Yoga builds up those muscles that you use daily, and it also makes a great pain reliever. Since I started doing it daily, my chronic back pain is almost completely gone, with a few flair-ups now and then.

You’ll Be Physically Stronger

Yoga is another form of strength training, because it naturally strengthens your muscles, similar to way lifting weights would. It’s actually pretty common to combine the two. While you won’t be able to bench twice your weight when you’re doing it, you will discover that opening a jar of pickles is not nearly the herculean task that it used to be. You’re not doing a bunch of hard cardio exercises so it you might not feel like there is a change, but you will notice one only after doing it for a couple weeks.

You Sleep Better

gng yoga is, naturally this is going to help you sleep a lot better. Case in point, I used to suffer from chronic insomnia; there were some nights where I wouldn’t fall asleep until sunrise. I used to take things like Tylenol PM and Benadryl to help me sleep, but I hated how I felt tired and groggy the next day. So I started doing yoga and taking melatonin before going to bed. Bam! Instant sleep as soon as I would hit the pillow. Now I’m to the point where I don’t even need to take melatonin anymore.

You Will Lose Weight Too

Yoga is not like traditional forms of exercise (despite the fact that it’s been around a lot longer), so people don’t often equate it to losing weight. Daily sessions can go a long way into helping you lose weight and keep it off. You’re not only exercising your muscles and joints, you’re burning calories too. Not to mention yoga relaxes you, which helps if you are prone to stress eating.
This is just the tip of the iceberg.
